Bat ears can occur at birth from genetics or after birth from any reasons. Even though it does not lead or have negative effects to health issues, it may cause a social problem because a person with bat ears has a chance to be bullied at school, resulting in shame and less self-confidence.

So, how do bat ears look like? Normally, measuring from ears’ rims, our ears should lie backwards with an angle of approximately 25-35 degree.

  • The incisions take place at the back of ears. If skin turns out to be sagging, a plastic surgeon may need to remove some skin to tighten the areas. The surgeon will adjust and find the right method to fit individual patients the most.
  • In the case that needs to correct cartilage bones’ shape; for example, patients might have insufficient cartilage bones. There may be a need for other cartilage bones from other parts as a substitution.
